What are the 2008 British Business Awards?

The British Business Awards are organised by the British Chamber of Commerce, China, to recognise and reward people who are building businesses and brands in China through innovation, expertise and endeavour.

How many awards are there?

There are six different awards:

Company of the Year
Innovative Product/Service of the Year
Entrepreneur of the Year
Corporate Social Responsibility Award
Alumnus of the Year
The Young Icebreaker Award

Who can enter?

A British Chamber of Commerce Member, or
A China-based British-owned Company or Organisation, or
A China-based Company or Organisation with UK links, or
An employee of one of the above
A Chinese Alumnus of a British education Institution
British and Chinese young professionals under the age of 40

How do I enter?

From May 1, 2008 Application forms will be downloadable from the British Business Awards website at www.britishbusinessawards.cn. Applications will be submitted online.

What are the judges looking for?

Each award category has specific judging criteria that can be viewed online. The judges will use the Judging Criteria to give each entrant a score out of 100.

When is the application deadline?

The application deadline is August 29, 2008.

Can I enter more than one award category?

Yes. Entrants can enter more than one award category.

How many judges are there?

For each award category there will be a Judging Panel of 5-6 judges

Who are the judges?

The Judging Panels are composed of British and Chinese business, government, media and education leaders.The Judging Panels can be viewed online.There is also an Panel of Advisors, comprised of the British Ambassador, and senior representatives from UK Trade & Investment of The British Embassy, the British Council, the China-Britain Business Council and the Confederation of British Industry.

How does the online voting work?

From September 8, 2008 to September 26, 2008 online voting will be activated for the five short-listed nominees for each of the award categories. Online voters will be required to register online before they can vote.

A China-based British-owned Company or Organisation, or
A China-based Company or Organisation with UK links, or
An employee of one of the above
A Chinese Alumni of a British education Institution
British and Chinese young professionals under the age of 40

How many times can somebody vote?

Eligible online voters will be able to vote once in each award category.

Will the online voting automatically decide the final results?

No. The Judging Panels will take the following into consideration

The entrant's application form
The interview with the short-listed nominee and
The online voting results

The Judging Panels' decisions will then be approved by the Advisory Committee.

May 1 - Applications invited
May 5 - British Business Awards launch event
Aug 29 - Application deadline
Sept 9 - Judging Panels will short-list top five entrants
Sept 10 - On-line voting starts for short-listed nominees
Sept 26 - On-line voting closes
Oct 13-17 - Judging Panels interview short-listed entrants
Oct 17 - Judging Panels decide the winner and finalists
Oct 21 - Pane lof Advisors confirms the final results
Nov 6 - British Business Awards Ceremony
